How does X-TOTALTM work?
A PC-based utility with X-TOTALTM reads your SASIxpTM District Integration Database and formats certain key information about schools, students, and staff so that this information can be transferred to your Palm® OS PDA. Then another program, called a conduit, actually transfers the information to the Palm® PDA during a normal HotSync operation. A third program allows you to view the information and search for specific students and staff on your Palm® OS handheld. How long does the process take? The number of students and staff in your district is the determining factor. Generally, it takes just a few minutes to process and HotSync 20,000 students. (This time estimate may vary based on the configuration of your network and how fast your personal PC runs.) How fast is X-TOTALTM on a Palm®?Searching for a student by last name in a 40,000 student database takes under four seconds. You will find X-TOTALTM to be very fast! You can also search and filter data by ethnic code, gender, school, etc. How much memory does it require? It takes only about three Mbytes of memory on a Palm® OS device to store 20,000 students and 2,000 staff members. Accordingly, 10,000 students and 1,000 staff members requires only about 1.5 Mbytes of memory. X-TOTALTM uses some very efficient methods to compress your data! What kind of Palm® PDA do I need?Unless you have over 20,000 students, most Palm® OS PDAs with 8 Mbytes of memory should be adequate. If you have over 20,000 students, we recommend that you use a device with 16 Mbytes of memory like the Palm® M515 or Tungsten T. Most people will use their Palm® device for tasks in addition to X-TOTALTM, so we suggest that you save yourself some expansion room on your PDA. Is X-TOTALTM difficult to use?Not at all! Usage is intuitively obvious and L-Systems adheres rigorously to the application guidelines recommended by PalmSource®. You will be productive immediately because the learning curve for your effective use of X-TOTALTM is virtually nil! Who will use X-TOTALTM?X-TOTALTM is recommended for superintendents, administrators, human resources, attendance workers, and others who need total visibility at the school district level. |
